Summer Reading Program for Students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade

Each year youngsters, parents and siblings march with Library Staff in the Memorial Day Parade. The 'Library Float' is decorated and children wear costumes that reflect the Summer Reading Program theme.

Be Creative @ Your Library 2009!

This year's theme celebrates creativity....and we look forward to once again participating in the Memorial Day Parade and borough planned events on Monday, May 25th.

Library staff will announce Craft dates for costume-making in early May for those who wish to march in the Memorial Day Parade with us!

Registration

Registration for the Summer Reading Program will begin June 15th. See calendar for times. Children and Teens registering will receive a packet of information, including a reading log.

Book Reports & Reading Logs

Book reporting begins June 29th and ends July 31st.

Participants may report on one book at a time, more if time permits. Reporting hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays will be 9:30am - 4:30pm. On Mondays & Wednesdays, reporting hours will be 9:30am - 6:30pm.

Last year the float consisted of a garden of bees and hives for the "Catch the Reading Bug" theme, and children were the cutest 'bugs' in Glen Ridge. .

Story Times - See Calendar

Summer Programs begin in late June and end July 31st. Participants must be registered for Story Times and for crafts. Sorry, but due to available space and materials, Glen Ridge residents only may currently register for the Summer Reading Program events.

The five week-long Story Time sessions include:

  • Baby & Me
  • ToddlerTime
  • Stories for 3-5year olds
  • Activities

    Crafts, Puzzles , Afternoon at the Movies and Game Days. More details to follow!

    Special Programs last summer included a visit by the Essex County Environmental Center for a lesson on insects!
