The Friends of the LibraryOur primary goals are to stimulate community awareness and use of the Glen Ridge Public Library and to support the library in developing its services and facilities. To this end, the Friends work to obtain public support for the Library budget; and to encourage gifts, endowments and memorials that provide financial support to the Library. Dan Kirk - An Affair To RememberRenowned children's book creator Daniel Kirk spoke at the Friends of the Glen Ridge Library Annual Meeting program in May. In a talk and slide show entitled “Library Books, An Affair To Remember”, Kirk discussed the way in which public libraries have figured as a subject in children’s books from the 1950’s to the present. With illustrations from dozens of books, as well as from his own titles, Kirk explored the changing ways society has viewed public libraries and librarians over the decades. He shared a sneak peak of his next Library Mouse book, “A World to Explore”, which will be published in September of 2010. This May 20th presentation was preceded by a brief business meeting where the Friends recapped the year, thanked outgoing officers, and elected new trustees.
