Learn with a Librarian

Don't Google alone! Learn with a Librarian instead.

Do you need in-depth personal assistance with using the library's resources?  We are here to help you!
The Glen Ridge Public Library is pleased to provide Learn with a Librarian.  This service will allow you to reserve a 30-minute one-on-one session with our Reference Librarian.

What is learn with a librarian?
This service pairs you with our Reference Librarian for a one-on-one customized session designed to help you make the most of our collections. This service focuses on questions that require time beyond general assistance and is best used for more in-depth instruction on how to use our library's electronic catalog, databases, and digital resources.   This service is for Glen Ridge Library card holders only.  Don't have a card? Apply online.  Sessions are by appointment only and can be made by completing the form below or calling the library.   While this service is subject to availability, typically you may have one session per week.  Sessions are 30-minutes long, but if deemed necessary, may be extended at the discretion of the librarian.  Sessions are held Monday - Friday with evening hours available.

What type of help is provided?
A typical Learn with a Librarian session may include:
  • An overview of the library's collections, services, and website
  • A walkthrough of the library's electronic catalog - how to find an item, place a request/hold, and set-up and manage your account
  • Instruction on how to research a topic using the library's online resources and services
  • How to borrow digital material such as eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, music, and other content

Is there any kind of help that this service doesn't offer?
We cannot offer advice (except to advise you of reputable sources of quality information) nor provide data entry for media, legal, financial, business, travel bookings, etc.). We are unable to set-up or troubleshoot software on your personal devices.  We cannot assist with online shopping or purchases.

Are there other ways to get help from a librarian?
Of course!  You can always stop by and speak with our Reference Librarian, email us or call 973-748-5482.

How do I schedule an appointment?
Complete the form below or call 973-748-5482.   Once we receive your request, we will schedule your appointment within two (2) business days.  Sessions are held Monday - Friday with evening hours available.    If you need to cancel an appointment, please call the library or email us.
