Outside 24/7 Pickup Lockers Project - anticipated Fall 2022
In 2019 Glen Ridge residents responded to the community survey with a strong desire for more library hours and expanded access to library materials. In response, the library added 6 more weekly operational hours and plans to meet the need for expanded access to the materials through the addition of outside pickup lockers.
Since the start of the pandemic, several libraries in the Northern New Jersey area have - with great success - added pickup lockers to their services. These lockers allow users 24/7 access to requested library materials and are integrated with the library's circulation system making your pickup experience seamless. Users will be able to select the lockers as their pickup location. At any time night or day, users, having been notified that their items are ready, will be able to check out via the computer interface at the kiosk.
The lockers will be housed in a kiosk that will provide lighting, and protect both the user and the lockers from any inclement weather. The kiosk, by design, will perform a dual function. In addition to housing the lockers, it will replace the deteriorating retaining wall which is in desperate need of costly repair. The kiosk, which will be fully ADA compliant, will be located in the library plaza making it easily accessible to all.
We are pleased to announce that after two years of planning, the Friends of the Glen Ridge Library will sponsor this project. The Friends are completely funding and executing this project for an install in Fall 2022.
The Friends of the Glen Ridge Library, a registered 501(c)3, have engaged Daniel Kopec Architectural Design LLC to design and manage the project. Mr. Kopec, a Glen Ridge resident, has experience with historic buildings and has served on the Glen Ridge Historic Preservation Commission. His design, which complements the architecture of the Glen Ridge Library, has undergone review and been accepted by both the Glen Ridge Historic Preservation Commission and the State Historic Preservation Office.
